0

事象

APFS(Apple

WinPE/WinRE

Acronis True Image: troubleshooting issues with backup to Acronis Cloud

$
0
0

Introduction

This article provides troubleshooting steps for issues with backup to Acronis Cloud storage using Acronis True Image, versions 2017 through 2019.

Symptoms

1. Backup to Acronis Cloud fails.

2. When you click on the red X or || icon to see details, one of the following messages is shown:

  • Your subscription has expired
  • You have entered an incorrect email or password
  • Acronis Cloud is full
  • Bad certificate request
  • Failed to create the certificate
  • Failed to renew certificate
  • SSL connection to … has failed
  • Failed to connect to ...
  • No Internet connection
  • The backup to Acronis Cloud cannot be started. Check your Internet connection
  • Network disconnected
  • Network disconnected by timeout
  • The specified file does not exist

Prerequisites

Certain pre-requirements must be met to use Acronis Cloud successfully:

  1. Computer, where you want to use Acronis Cloud, should have an Internet connection. Broadband is recommended, although slower links will also work with increased time to seed the initial backup.
  2. Internet connection must not use proxy (user guide, KB article).
  3. Acronis processes and server addresses must not be blocked in firewall settings, in the system file "hosts" and by any other security-related software.
  4. The required ports TCP 443, 44445, 55556 must be opened.
  5. The product must be installed and activated.
  6. Acronis account must exist and the product should be signed into that account. Check if the email address of your Acronis account is displayed under Account tab in the product. If you accidentially or intentionally indicated a different email address during purchase, the purchased license was automatically registered to that address. Either sign into that Acronis account or move the license between accounts at account.acronis.com as explained here.
  7. There must be enough free space in your Acronis Cloud to accomodate the data you want to backup. See your Acronis Cloud status under the Account tab. To buy more Cloud storage, click "Upgrade" under Account tab. More on expanding Cloud storage here.

Users of the Standard license ("Perpetual", "One-Time Purchase") who didn't inherit Cloud storage from earlier versions of Acronis True Image, should upgrade to Advanced or Premium editions to be able to use Acronis Cloud. Both are subscriptions. Acronis Cloud cannot be purchased separately for Standard license, without moving to a subscription edition. Click "Upgrade" under Account to upgrade. See more here.

Troubleshooting

  1. Update Acronis True Image to the latest build
  2. Reboot your computer, then launch the software, click Backup now to see if backup starts successfully
  3. If rebooting didn't help, refresh the cache used for backup to Cloud:
    1. Click on your email address under Account tab and click Sign out
    2. Close Acronis True Image window
    3. Rename the cache folder from OnlineBackup to OnlineBackup.bak:

      Windows: C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\OnlineBackup
      Mac: /Library/Application Support/Acronis/TrueImageHome/OnlineBackup

    4. Reboot the computer
    5. Launch Acronis True Image
    6. Open Account tab
    7. Click Sign in
    8. Sign into Acronis account again
    9. Click Backup now button to run the backup. See if it now succeeds
  4. Click on the backup source rectangle and re-select what you would like to backup to Acronis Cloud, then click the green button Backup now to see if the backup started working again
  5. Check this article for solution: Acronis True Image: Common backup errors
  6. NAS users: If you are trying to backup data from a NAS to Acronis Cloud, data might be locked by other applications installed on your computer or other computers that use the NAS. Because Acronis True Image is accessing the NAS not through a native NAS application, but as a share, it does not have exclusive level of access required for backup purposes and will fail if other application locked the data on NAS. Please make sure that when backup runs, no other application from any computer and from the NAS itself is using (cataloguing, syncing, copying, moving or processing anyhow) the data that you try to backup
  7. Check whether the issue is specific to a particular backup task. For that, create a new backup task by clicking Add backup in the left bottom corner and run a backup of a small file or folder to Acronis Cloud. If it succeeds, and you have a fast Internet connection, you can delete not working backup and create a new backup. It is not obligatory, but a technical possibility to resolve the issue.
  8. If you have enough disk space on external USB drive or NAS, check if a backup of the same data, that fails to upload to Cloud, succeeds to that USB or to NAS. This will help determine whether the issue is specific to Acronis Cloud backup destination.

Further investigation

If the issue persists after the troubleshooting steps above, collect the following information and contact Acronis Customer Central for further investigation.

1) Screenshots of the error message, Account tab in the product and web console

2) OnlineBackup folder:

Windows: C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\OnlineBackup

Mac: /Library/Application Support/Acronis/TrueImageHome/OnlineBackup

3) Scripts folder:

Windows: C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts

Mac: /Library/Application Support/Acronis/TrueImage/Scripts

4) Cloud connection verification tool's output: https://kb.acronis.com/content/47145

5) PCAP log: https://kb.acronis.com/pcap. Recording must be started before the issue reproduces and ended after it reproduces.

6) ProcMon log: https://kb.acronis.com/procmon. Recording must be started before the issue reproduces and ended after it reproduces.

7) System Report that must be collected after collecting PCAP and ProcMon log, so that it contains logs of all operations

More information

If the backup fails with one of the following errors:

  • Remote server returned error ...
  • Write error
  • Error occurred while writing the file
  • FES request failed
  • Failed to lock the file

Acronis True Image: computer unexpectedly boots into Acronis rescue environment

$
0
0

Symptoms

When you turn on the computer, Acronis bootable environment starts up unexpectedly instead of Windows.

Acronis Startup Recovery Manager was not activated or used.

Cause

Windows boot manager is not first in the BIOS/UEFI boot order list. External disk, CD/DVD or USB thumb drive with Acronis Bootable Media/Acronis Rescue Kit is higher in that list.

Acronis does not change the boot order. The media (external disk, CD/DVD, pendrive) was unbootable or disconnected before the issue occurred. As unbootable or disconnected media, it was silently skipped during boot process and Windows was loading first. Then either a Bootable Media or Acronis Rescue Kit was created, and media with it remained connected to the computer. Because it has since become bootable, it is no longer skipped during boot process and computer starts off it instead of booting into Windows.

Solution

Enter BIOS settings and change boot order list: put Windows Boot Manager first:

1) When you turn on the computer, usually you will see the key combination to enter BIOS setup, shortly displayed on the screen.

2) Press the indicated key on the keyboard (such as Del, F1, F2, F10, Insert, Ctrl+Alt+Esc, Ctrl+Esc). The BIOS setup utility will open.

3) Enter boot settings section and put Windows Boot Manager first in the boot priority order. If you do not see Windows Boot Manager, put the internal disk where Windows is installed, first in the list.

4) Save changes and exit BIOS setup utility. A usual shortcut key for that is F10 on keyboard.

If you have created a bootable media on a USB thumb drive or CD/DVD and plan to use it only for Acronis True Image, disconnect it from the computer and keep in a safe place.

Acronis True Image 2019: Backup fails with "There is not enough space on the destination drive to perform a backup"

$
0
0

Symptoms

Backup task fails with the following error:

There is not enough space on the destination drive to perform a backup

Solution

The software detected that there is not enough space on destination to complete the backup.

1. If this is the first time you create a backup, make sure that the selected destination has enough space for the data that you want to backup. Specify a different backup destination or select less data for backup.

2.  If you have previously created backups with this backup task, most likely the destination have filled up with archives. Free up disk space on destination by deleting unnecessary archives as described in Acronis True Image 2019: How to delete old backups.

3. If there are old .TIB files in the destination location that do not correspond to any of backups in Acronis True Image interface, turn off Active Protection temporarily and delete those .TIB files in Windows Explorer to make room for new backups.

4. If you do not know what consumes disk space in the destination location, use a free disk space analyzer tool: DiskSavvy, WinDirStat or any other.

5. Lastly, set up automatic cleanup rules to avoid filling the storage completely: see Automatic Cleanup Rules section in product documentation.

Acronis True Image: false alarm by email about a failed backup

$
0
0

Symptoms

You receive an email notification about a failed backup.

You check Acronis True Image user interface and all indicates that all backups have completed successfully :

  • green check box is displayed on each backup
  • backup completion confirmation is displayed under Activity tab for each backup
  • a new recovery point under Recovery tab is added as date and time of a successful backup (right upper corner)

Cause

Issue with product configuration. Acronis Scheduler attempts to run a non-existent backup task.

Solution

You need to delete traces of the non-existent backup task manually. This can be achieved either by clearing up the schedule and reconfiguring backups or by searching for the the faulty script and deleting it manually.

Method 1

This method is easier but you will need to re-define backups' schedule afterwards (backups themselves and all the settings except for the schedule will be preserved)

  1. Download Acronis Scheduler Manager, right-click it and select Run as administrator
  2. Run the following command in Scheduler Manager:

    task zap

  3. In Acronis True Image user interface, click on each backup that you want to be run automatically by schedule, click on the Options button, re-enter the desired schedule for backups and save changes
  4. See if the issue is resolved and you no longer receive false alarms about failed backups by email.

Method 2

This method is more complicated, includes additional cleanup action (Scripts folder), but no backup reconfiguration is required afterwards. It consists of deleting configuration files - leftovers from previous backup tasks in the Scripts folder, and their corresponding entries in Acronis Scheduler.

  1. Turn off Acronis Active Protection temporarily
  2. Delete configuration files of non-existing tasks:
      1. Open the Scripts folder at C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts. This folder contains files with GUID names such as 3DBBFDBC-9BE0-4E54-9B39-F261D8A7C3CE. Each file represents either a backup task or an automatic post-backup validation task.
      2. Open each file with Notepad or other text editor (right-click -> Open with....) and find their display and uuid parameters. Display parameter corresponds to the backup task name, seen in Acronis True Image interface, or an automatic post-backup validation task. Uuid is a unique identifier of the task, it also matches the script's file name. Delete files, that do not have a corresponding task in the product's user interface.
In our example, if we would see, say, "My pictures" in between <display> and </display>, we would delete that file, because we do not see such backup in Acronis True Image user interface.
  3. Delete tasks in Acronis Scheduler, that do not have a corresponding script file:
    1. Download Acronis Scheduler Manager, right-click it and select Run as administrator
    2. Run the following command in Scheduler Manager:

      get list

The program will display the list of the tasks. Look at uuid after the /script: part:

    3. You will need to delete the tasks, whose uuids do not exist in the Scripts folder by their numbers from the first column.
In the example above we take tasks with numbers 1-3, 1-4, 1-5 and 1-7 (seen at the left edge of the picture), then see which of them are missing the corresponding scripts by their uuids and delete those entries in Scheduler Manager using the following commands:

      task [number]

      task delete

For example, if the task 1-3 (uuid 24DF111B-845C-4186-A9D6-0292B09A5AF4) is lacking a script file (C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts\24DF111B-845C-4186-A9D6-0292B09A5AF4.tib.tis), we would delete this record:

      task 1-3

      task delete

    4. Tasks that do not have a /script: part in Acronis Scheduler Manager's output are harmless and can be kept.

  4. Turn on Active Protection back.
  5. See if the issue is resolved and you no longer receive false alarms about failed backups by email.

Acronis True Image: how to delete backups in Acronis Cloud and free up Cloud storage space

$
0
0

Introduction

This articles describes how to free up storage space in Acronis Cloud by deleting backups, their old versions and prevent reaching the quota limit again.

The option to delete individual files and folders from backups in Acronis Cloud has been removed because they would be re-uploaded on the next backup run, consuming your time, Internet traffic and occupying storage in Acronis Cloud again.

Solution

There are several ways to regain storage space in the Acronis Cloud, which you can see down below. Please note that if you enable more than one criteria, backups will be deleted according to the more "restrictive" condition: e.g. if you run backups daily, and select Store no more than 2 recent file versions as well as Delete versions that are older than 1 month, then only backups from 2 last days will be kept.

Delete old backup versions, keep recent backup versions (per backup task operation)

Delete old backup versions, keep recent backup versions (account-through operation, applies to all not password protected backups)

Delete all backup versions, settings and schedule (per backup task operation)

Delete all backup versions, keep settings and schedule (per backup task operation)

In order to prevent the Cloud storage from filling again, adjust the settings of automatic cleanup (per backup task)

Delete old backup versions, keep recent backup versions (per backup task operation)

By default, Acronis True Image keeps 20 most recent versions of the backup in Acronis Cloud (this number can be changed in backup options). When Acronis Cloud storage becomes full, you can delete old backup versions. Regardless of how this method is employed, one most recent version of the backup will always be kept. To delete all of the backup versions, skip to the next method.

1) Go to Acronis Cloud web application https://www.acronis.com/my/online-backup/webrestore/ and log in using your Acronis account login and password

2) Move the mouse cursor over the backup to clear up backup versions. A "gear" icon will appear. Click on this "gear" icon and select Clean up... from the drop-down menu

3) Specify the condition(s) for backups to delete or keep. You can delete backup versions older than the specified amount of days/months/years and/or you can choose to keep only the desired number of recent backup versions, and delete the rest.

4) After specifying the necessary cleanup parameters, click Clean up now

Delete old backup versions, keep recent backup versions (account-through operation, applies to all not password protected backups)

The previous procedure will clean up backup versions, created by one particular backup task. If you have many of them, consider a global cleanup that would run over all not password-protected backups under your Acronis account. Backups with password will have to be cleaned up one-by-one.

1) Go to Acronis Cloud web application https://www.acronis.com/my/online-backup/webrestore/ and log in using your Acronis account login and password

2) Click on Storage status tab:

3) Click on Clean up space

4) Web restore will show how much space is occupied in the storage and how much space would be cleared with the selected settings. Select whether you want to delete backup versions older than 1 month or older than 1 week and click Clean up now. To customize the number of backups to keep or the time criteria, click "Advanced cleanup" in the bottom left corner of the dialog.

Delete all backup versions, settings and schedule

To delete a backup with all of its versions, settings and schedule, launch Acronis True Image, click the down arrow icon next to the backup to delete, and then click Delete.  Then click Yes to confirm the operation.

Delete all backup versions, keep settings and schedule

If you want to wipe out all backup versions, but preserve backup settings and schedule, delete the backup via Acronis Cloud web application. Note that as there would be no backup versions after that, the backup task would start uploading everything from scratch to the Cloud, consuming Internet traffic and time.

This can be done via a web browser from any device, even if Acronis True Image is not installed on it.

1) Go to Acronis Cloud web application https://www.acronis.com/my/online-backup/webrestore/ and log in using your Acronis account login and password

2) Move the mouse cursor over the backup that you want to delete. A "gear" icon will appear. Click on this "gear" icon and select Remove from the drop-down menu.

3) Click "Delete" button to confirm the operation

The backup will be gone from Acronis Cloud, but all the settings and schedule will remain in Acronis True Image software application. Next time the backup task starts, it will start uploading the data, selected as backup source, to Acronis Cloud, from scratch. This limits the usage of this method of Acronis Cloud cleanup to a very specific cases, for example, when the backup size is relatively small, or when Acronis True Image software is not installed or not accessible.

Adjust the settings of automatic cleanup (per backup task)

To avoid filling the entire Cloud Storage it is recommended to set up automatic Cloud cleanup in backup options so that old versions of the backup are deleted automatically according to the rules that you specify.

1) Select your Cloud backup in the list and click Options

2) In Options, go to Advanced tab -> Acronis Cloud Cleanup

3) Use the Store no more than … recent file versions option to enter a value that limits the maximum number of all versions in the storage.

You can also select the Delete versions that are older than check box and enter a value that limits the maximum age of the older versions. All other versions will be automatically deleted except the most recent versions.

4) Click OK to save changes
