Symptom

Entire PC backups in Acronis True Image started to fail with error "Unknown status" after Windows Sandbox feature of Windows 10 was enabled.

Windows Sandbox is an optional feature in Windows 10 that appeared in May 2019 Update (Version 1903). It is not enabled automatically. One has to mark the corresponding checkbox in Windows Features list.

Cause

Known incompatibility issue with the virtual disk that Windows Sandbox uses for its operations.

Entire PC backup automatically includes all internal disks into the backup source. Backup fails, when the program tries to access the virtual disk of Windows Sandbox.

Solution

The issue is expected to be fixed in one of the next versions of Acronis True Image.

In the meanwhile, there are workarounds:

Method 1. Turn off Windows Sandbox

If you turned on Windows Sandbox just to check out the new feature of Windows 10 and then decided that you do not need it, disabling Windows Sandbox would fix the backup.

1. Open Windows Start menu
2. Type optionalfeatures together, without a space between the words optional and features, and press Enter on keyboard.
3. Scroll down to "Windows Sandbox" and uncheck that option:
   
4. Click OK.
5. Click Restart now to reboot the computer and complete turning off Windows Sandbox.

Method 2. Exclude the virtual disk of Windows Sandbox from the backup

Because 1) exclusions setting does not accept disks as exclude rule, and 2) changing backup source of Entire PC is not supported, this method consists in recreating backup plan from scratch. A new full backup would be created as a consequence.

1. Delete existing backup task: open the backup menu and select Delete.
2. Create a new backup task, selecting "Disk and partitions" backup type.
3. Mark all the disks, except for the disk "MSFT VIRTUAL DISK 1.0" and disk volume "PortableBaseLayer" as displayed on the picture below:
   
4. Click OK.
5. Set other backup options and finish recreating the backup plan.

Symptom 1

Entire PC backup interrupts with message "Source is not selected. The operation has been terminated".

Symptom 2

After interruptions and retries, illustrated above, Entire PC backup transitions to the "failed state" and a red cross is displayed. The error text says "Source is not selected. The operation has been terminated".

Symptom 3

If you try creating a new "Disk and partitions" backup, "OK" button is grayed out and a message appears: "Unable to back up a locked volume encrypted with BitLocker. Unlock the volume or turn off BitLocker, and then try again.", even though the selected disk volume is in "unlocked" state (see Compatibility with Bitlocker).

Cause

Acronis True Image uses Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy service (VSS) to access disks for backup. If there is any problem with VSS, backup may not work properly.

The above described symptoms can occur when "volsnap" entry is missing from UpperFilters under the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71a27cdd-812a-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f} in the system registry.

volsnap is the Volume Shadow Copy driver and is required to not only be up and running, but also present in the aforementioned registry key, for Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy service to function correctly.

volsnap could have been erroneously removed from the registry key by a third-party software, e.g. antivirus or a system optimization software.

Solution

Add the missing volsnap entry in the system registry resolve the issue:

1. Make a backup of the folder, where the system registry is stored C:\Windows\System32\Config as a precaution measure, by using Acronis Bootable Media. Alternatively, you can create a backup of the whole system disk with the same bootable media.
2. Back in Windows, add volsnap in the system registry:
   1. Open Windows Start menu, type regedit, press Enter on keyboard
   2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71a27cdd-812a-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f}
   3. Double-click on UpperFilters in the registry editor.
   4. Add volsnap on a new line beforefltsrv, so that all entries in the box "Value data" are written one per line
      
   5. Click OK
3. Reboot the computer

When switching from trial to the full version, you only need to provide the serial number, no need to reinstall the product. All backups, syncs, and other settings will be kept.

If you have an account with active Acronis True Image Advanced or Premium subscription, you simply need to log in under your account and Acronis True Image 2020 will automatically switch from trial to full version if you have available seats or if you had previously activated an earlier version of Acronis True Image on this machine.

If you have a perpetual license or if your subscription license is not registered yet, then follow the steps below:

• Switch from trial to full on a Windows machine
• Switch from trial to full on a Mac

On a Windows computer

1. Start Acronis True Image, and select Account on the sidebar;
2. On the Account screen, click Enter serial number:
4. Provide the serial number and click Activate:
   
5. You will need to log in to your Acronis account to complete activation

If you have a box version of Acronis True Image, you can provide the activation code (16 digits) instead of the full serial number (64 digits). You will be prompted to log in to your Acronis account to register your copy of Acronis True Image or to create an account, if you don't have one yet. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Now you can use your Acronis True Image. On the Account tab, you can review license details, current build number, check for updates, and purchase additional licenses of Acronis True Image and/or move to a bigger Cloud Storage tier:

On a Mac

1. Open Acronis True Image.
2. On the menu bar, click Acronis True Image:
   
3. Click Enter Serial Number:
   
4. Insert the full serial number, and then click Activate:
   

 Now you can use your Acronis True Image.

Backing up the entire machine is the most complete way to protect your data. We recommend that you choose this option when you are not sure which data you need to protect. When you select Entire PC/Entire Mac as a backup type, Acronis True Image backs up all your internal hard drives in disk mode. The backup contains the operating system, installed programs, system settings, and all your personal data including your photos, music, and documents.

To back up the entire contents of your Windows computer

1. Start Acronis True Image.
2. On the sidebar, click Backup
3. If other backups are already in the list (e.g. created by previous versions of Acronis True Image), then click Add backup
4. Entire PC is pre-selected, leave it as is:
   
5. You can specify a custom name for your backup:

6. Click Select destination then select a destination for the backup:
   
      
   You need Acronis True Image Advanced ot Premium subscription to be able to back up to Acronis Cloud. If an external drive is plugged in, it will be detected automatically and will be displayed in the list of available backup destinations. Acronis True Image also detects NAS in the network and displays it in the list of available destinations as well. See product documentation for more information about recommended storage for your backups

   In this example we select Acronis Cloud as a destination.

7. Click Options to set the options for the backup, including schedule, scheme, archive cleanup and others:

8. We recommend to set a schedule or creating regular backups of your system. If you select the option Do not schedule, then you will need to run the backup task manually every time using Back up now button

9. It is recommended to set how long the backups should be kept, otherwise backups will quickly fill up the storage. 
   If you store backups locally (on an USB drive, NAS, network share, etc.), set up cleanup rules in Backup Scheme. If you are not sure which options to select, leave the default selection.
   
   If you store backups in cloud, set up cleanup rules in Advanced:
   
10. Click Back up now or press the "down arrow" button to select another start time option:
    

 To back up the entire contents of your Mac

1. Start Acronis True Image.
2. On the sidebar, click Backup. If you already have other backups set up, click Add Backup to add a new backup task:
   
3. Entire Mac is pre-selected on the left, leave it as is:

5. Click the backup destination icon on the right, and then select a destination for the backup:
   

   You need Acronis True Image Advanced ot Premium subscription to be able to back up to Acronis Cloud. 7. You can select a schedule for creating regular backups of your system. If you select the option Do not schedule, then you will need to run the backup task manually every time using Back up button
   
8. It is recommended to set how long the backups should be kept. Set up auto-delete rules in Cleanup. If you are not sure which options to select, leave the default selection.

In Acronis True Image you can recover files and folders both from file-level backups or from disk and Entire PC backups. You can restore files using Acronis True Image or in Windows Explorer.

Acronis True Image must be installed on the computer in order to perform recovery under Windows.

How to restore files in Acronis True Image

To recover files and folders:

1. Start Acronis True Image and click Backup on the sidebar
2. From the backup list, select the backup which contains the files or folders that you want to recover:
   
3. On the right panel, click Recovery:
   
4. Acronis True Image will display possible recovery modes for this backup. Depending on type of backup, possible recovery modes are: Entire PC, Disks, Partitions, Files. Select Files
6. If necessary, select backup version (data state on specific date and time). By default the latest backup version is selected:
   
7. Select the files and folders that you want to recover, and then click Next:
   
8. Select a destination on your computer to where you want to recover selected files/folders.
   • You can recover data to its original location, as selected by default
   • Or choose a new one, if necessary. To choose a new location, click the Browse button:
     
      
9. When needed, set the options for the recovery process (recovery process priority, file-level security settings, etc.). To set the options, click Recovery options. The options you set here will be applied only to the current recovery operation. You can learn more about recovery options in product documentation
10. To start the recovery process, click the Recover now button.
    You can stop the recovery by clicking Cancel. Please keep in mind that the aborted recovery may still cause changes in the destination folder.

How to restore files in File Explorer

To recover files and folders directly from File Explorer on a machine where Acronis True Image 2020 is installed:

1. Double-click the corresponding .tib file, and then browse to the file or folder that you want to recover:
   
2. Drag and drop or copy and paste the file to a selected folder:
   

Note: The copied files lose the "Compressed" and "Encrypted" attribute. If you need to keep these attributes, it is recommended to perform a recovery via Acronis True Image as described above.

If the backup is shown as empty when browsing it in Windows Explorer, rename the folder C:\Users\<your Windows account name>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database, reboot the computer and try again.

Do the following, if you want to back up individual disk/partitions or files/folders. For example, if you have several disks, but only want to backup partition C:\ with the operating system, or if you want to back up only a folder with important documents.

On a Windows computer

1. Start Acronis True Image and click Backup on the sidebar.
2. Click Add backup to add a new backup:
   
3. You can change default backup name:
   
4. Click backup source icon, and then select the type of items you want to back up: Disks and partitions or Files and folders
     

   from here you can select a specific disk or partition that you want to back up, for example, partition C:\

   or select files and folders

5. Click backup destination icon, and then select a destination for the backup:
      

   You need Acronis True Image Advanced or Premium to be able to back up to Acronis Cloud.

6. Click Options to set the options for the backup, including schedule, scheme, archive cleanup and others:

What is dual protection feature in Acronis True Image 2020 and how to use it

Introduction

Dual protection feature allows you to automatically replicate Entire Computer backups and disk-partition backups to Acronis Cloud. Automatically replicating your local backup in the cloud ensures you always have an off-site copy available for recovery. It streamlines your the 3-2-1 backup strategy by completing the backup and replication simultaneously: no need to manage two plans or run two backups.

Prerequisites and limitations:

• Replica is available only for backups started with Acronis True Image 2020. The tab "Replica" will not appear for backups, created by older versions of Acronis True Image.
• Replica is available only for backup plans created with Acronis True Image 2020.
• Only Entire PC/Entire Mac backups and disk/partition backups can be replicated to Cloud. This option is not available for file/folder backups.
• Initial backup must be saved to a local or external hard drive. Backups saved on network share, NAS, FTP, Acronis Secure Zone, optical discs (BD, DVD, CD) cannot be replicated.
• You need Acronis Cloud Storage in order to use replica. Acronis Cloud Storage is a part of Advanced and Premium subscriptions.
• Replication is not activated by default. You can activate it in a special tab of a backup plan.
• If some local backups were already created which the previous replication is in progress, the next replication will take the latest local backup slice.
• If you set up any post-backup commands, they will be executed after backup completes and before the replication starts. If you choose to turn off the computer after backup finishes, the machine will turn off after backup completes. In such case, replication will start when the computer is switched on again.
• It is possible to replicate only to Acronis Cloud. Replication to a local folder, local network and to other vendors' Cloud storage is not available.

Solution

How to use replica:

1. Open Acronis True Image and set up a disk/partition backup or Entire Computer backup. 
2. Start the backup:

3. Switch to the Replica tab at the top of backup window or click down arrow next to the backup name and select Add replica:

4. Click Replicate:

5. If you are not logged in to your Acronis Account, software will prompt you to sign in
6. Replication will start automatically after the initial backup is finished:

   (!) Note that the replication status will be displayed on the Replica tab and not in the main backup window.

More information

If you don't plan to use replication to the Cloud and have not yet created a replica, you can remove Replica tab for this backup plan using Hide the replica tab button.

To recover your system:

1. Attach the external drive if it contains the backup to be used for recovery and make sure that the drive is powered on.
2. Arrange the boot order in BIOS so as to make your rescue media device (CD, DVD or USB stick, or external USB HDD in case you use Acronis Survival Kit) the first boot device. See Arranging boot order in BIOS or UEFI BIOS.
   If you use an UEFI computer, please pay attention to the boot mode of the bootable media in UEFI BIOS. It is recommended that the boot mode matches the type of the system in the backup. If the backup contains a BIOS system, then boot the bootable media in BIOS mode; if the system is UEFI, then ensure that UEFI mode is set.
3. Boot from the rescue media. Wait while the bootable environment is loading:
   
4. Acronis True Image 2020 window appears:
   
5. On the Home screen, select My disks below Recover.

6. Select the system disk or partition backup to be used for recovery.
   If the backup is not displayed, click Browse and specify path to the backup manually.
7. Select Recover whole disks and partitions at the Recovery method step:
   
8. On What to recover screen locate the system disk and mark the checkbox next to it. To avoid unnecessary configuration steps further in the wizard, click on the checkbox next to the disk title, e.g. "Disk 1", and not on the checkboxes next to partitions (EFI System Partition, C:, Recovery partition, etc):
   
9. Review the "Destination of Disk 1" and click Next if it is correct. Otherwise, change the settings as required before clicking Next. Changing the settings will be needed when recovering to the new hard disk of a different capacity.
   
10. Carefully read the summary of operations at the Summary step. Having checked the summary click Proceed to start recovery.
    
11. When the operation finishes, exit the standalone version of Acronis True Image 2020, remove the rescue media and boot from the recovered system partition. After making sure that you have recovered Windows to the state you need, restore the original boot order.

二重保護の使用により、コンピュータ全体、ディスクまたはパーティションのバックアップが自動的に Acronis Cloud にレプリケートされるように設定できます。ローカルのバックアップがクラウドに自動レプリケートされると、何かあったときにすぐにオフサイトのコピーを復元できます。バックアップとレプリケーションが一緒に実行されますから、2つの計画を設定したり2つのバックアップを実行したりする必要もなく、簡単に 3-2-1 ルールをクリアできます。

前提条件および制限:

• Acronis True Image 2020 で開始されたバックアップの場合のみレプリケーションできます。Acronis True Image のより古いバージョンで作成されたバックアップの場合は、[レプリカ] タブが表示されません。
• Acronis True Image 2020 で作成されたバックアップ計画の場合のみレプリケーションできます。
• コンピュータ全体（あるいは Mac 全体）、ディスクおよびパーティションのバックアップのみクラウドにレプリケートできます。ファイルやフォルダのバックアップにはこの機能を適用できません。
• 元のバックアップはローカルまたは外部のハードドライブに保存されている必要があります。ネットワーク共有、NAS、FTP、Acronis セキュアゾーン、光ディスク（BD、DVD、СD）へのバックアップはレプリケートできません。
• この機能を使用するために、Acronis クラウドストレージが必要です。Acronis クラウドストレージは、Advanced および Premium サブスクリプションに入っています。
• デフォルトではレプリケーションが行われません。バックアップ計画の専用タブで設定する必要があります。
• 前のレプリケーションがまだ進行中のときにローカル バックアップの新しいスライスが作成された場合、次のレプリケーションはローカル バックアップの最新のスライスを使用します。
• バックアップ後のコマンドを何か設定した場合、そのコマンドはバックアップが完了した後、レプリケーションが開始される前のタイミングで実行されます。例えば、バックアップが完了した後でコンピュータの電源を切るというアルゴリズムを選択した場合、コンピュータの電源が切られるのは、バックアップが完了した後です。この場合、レプリケーションは次回コンピュータを起動したときに始まります。
• Acronis Cloud にのみレプリケートできます。ローカル フォルダ、ローカル ネットワークまたは他のベンダーのクラウドストレージへのレプリケーションはできません。

ソリューション

レプリケーションの手順:

1. Acronis True Image を開きます。それから、ディスクまたはパーティションのバックアップ、あるいは、コンピュータ全体のバックアップを設定します。
2. バックアップを開始します:

5. まだ Acronis アカウントにログインされていない場合、サインインするように求められます。
6. 元のバックアップが完了してから、自動的にレプリケーションが始まります。

   (!)レプリケーションの状態は、バックアップのメイン ウィンドウではなく、[レプリカ] タブで表示されますのでご注意ください。

追加情報

まだレプリカを作成したことがなく、これからも Cloud へのレプリケーションの予定がない場合、このバックアップ計画から [レプリカ] タブを隠すことができます。そのために、[ [レプリカ] タブを非表示にする] ボタンを使用してください。

Acronis True Image 2020 のライセンスは、3種類があります:

• Acronis True Image 2020 Standard
• Acronis True Image 2020 Advanced
• Acronis True Image 2020 Premium

上記の各エディションには、コンピュータ1台、3台または5台用のライセンスがあります。どのライセンスでも、Acronis True Image を Windows または Mac にインストールできます。

また、どのライセンスでも、そのライセンスで許可されているコンピュータ台数以内であれば、PC と Mac のあらゆる組み合わせができます。例えば、３台用のライセンスでは、以下の組み合わせが可能です:　

• 3台の PC で Acronis True Image を使用する
• 3台の Mac で Acronis True Image を使用する
• 1台の PC と2台の Mac で Acronis True Image を使用する
• 2台の PC と1台の Mac で Acronis True Image を使用する

Acronis True Image ライセンス

Standard版のライセンスは無期限なので、有効期間の制限はありません。年間サブスクリプションの場合は、ライセンスの有効期間は1年間となります。その後、サブスクリプションを更新すると、製品の使用を続けることができます。

Acronis True Image サブスクリプションの有効期間が切れた後、サブスクリプションが更新されるまで、製品のすべての機能がブロックされます。しかし、有効期間が切れても、バックアップ済みのデータにはアクセスできます：

• 有効期限が切れてから5日間以内、バックアップを実行できます（Acronis クラウドストレージへのバックアップも含む）。
• 有効期限が切れてから30日間以内、クラウドストレージからデータを復元できます。有効期限が切れてから30日間が経ったら、クラウドストレージに保存されたデータは削除されます。
• ローカルのバックアップは、サブスクリプションの有効期限が切れてもいつでも復元できます。

モバイルデバイスとは、iOSまたはAndroidを使用しているデバイスのことです。Windows オペレーティングシステムを使用しているタブレットは、コンピュータとして扱われます。　

Acronis True Image では、ライセンスによって、本品を使用できる PC/Mac コンピュータの台数が決まります。一方で、バックアップ元やバックアップ先、バックアップ計画の数、バックアップデータの量、バックアップ バージョンなどにはライセンスによる制限がありません。保護される各コンピュータで必要なだけバックアップ計画を作成でき、サポートされるすべてのバックアップ タイプを使用できます。唯一の例外は、バックアップ先として Acronis Cloud を選択した場合です。Acronis Cloud 内で占める領域は、ライセンスによって指定されるストレージクォータ以内に抑える必要があります。

Acronis クラウドストレージ

Acronis True Image サブスクリプションには、Acronis クラウドストレージが含まれます。Acronis True Image Advanced サブスクリプションを購入する場合、クラウドストレージのクォータは250GBまたは500GBを選ぶことができます。 Acronis True Image Premium サブスクリプションの場合は、1TB、2TB、3TB、4TB、5TBのクォータがあります。Acronis クラウドストレージを持っていると、使える機能が増えます。例えば、バックアップおよびアーカイブされたデータを Acronis Cloud 内に保管でき、どこからでもいつでもこれらのデータへのアクセスおよび共有ができます。

Advanced および Premium 版の場合、Acronis クラウドストレージのサブスクリプションを上記の各クォータまで増やすことができます。

クォータは、お使いのアカウントに登録されているすべてのコンピュータで共有されます。

サブスクリプションのライセンス ポリシー

ライセンスによって、サブスクリプション期間、それから、製品をインストールするコンピュータ（物理または仮想）の台数が異なります。モバイルデバイスの数には、制限がありません。各ライセンスには、特定の容量のAcronis クラウドストレージが付いています。また、より大きなストレージクォータに切り替えて、追加の Acronis クラウドストレージを購入することもできます。ライセンスを持っている各エンドユーザーは、五（5）つ以内であれば、複数の Acronis True Imageのコピーを同時に利用できます。

Acronis True Image 2020 にアップグレードできる製品

現在有効なサブスクリプションをお持ちの場合、新しいバージョンのビルドがリリースされた後、そのビルドを無償でご自分のアカウントからダウンロードできます。この新しいバージョンは、現在お持ちのサブスクリプションの有効期限まで使用できます。

We recommend keeping your Acronis True Image up to date. Having a full or an upgrade license of Acronis True Image 2020 Standard you are eligible to download and install any new build (an update) of Acronis True Image 2020 for free. You are eligible to download and install any new build of Acronis True Image Advanced or Premium as long as your subscription is valid.

Downloading the update

The updated Acronis True Image will preserve all previous settings and tasks.

1. Run the installation package (starts automatically if downloaded from the product) and click Update:
